How would you feel if won a billion dollars? Try and imagine, because someone in California has just won USD 2.04 billion in the Powerball after purchasing the ticket, according to the California Lottery. The sum is staggering and no doubt lifechanging.

On the last day of the World Lottery Summit 2022 in Vancouver, winners were announced for the different awards.

The next World Lottery Summit – WLS 2024 – will be held in Paris, France from Oct 21-24, 2024.

On the closing evening of the World Lottery Summit (WLS 2022) in Vancouver, the World Lottery Association (WLA) President, Rebecca Paul paid tribute to Guy Simonis, the founding father of the WLA, who passed away on 5 October at the age of 91.

The WLA elected its new Executive Committee during its General Assembly on 19 October, which took place during the World Lottery Summit in Vancouver, Canada.

Successful lotteries and sports betting operators rely on the public to trust in the security and integrity of their operations, services and products.

The diverse nature of physical and digital lottery products and management systems means that lottery operators must be ready to handle any issues that could occur at retail sales points and with online apps and platforms, to ensure that their employees and operations systems continue to maintain optimal service to customers.

The WLA is pleased to announce the publication of a guide on sports betting marketing, with a focus on the marketing communications of sports betting products. It offers guidance on how to market such products competitively, yet responsibly, in order to meet the competition from illegal betting operators head-on.

Last year, the WLA began ramping up its actions in the fight against illegal lotteries and betting operations. The WLA, in collaboration with the Global Lottery Monitoring System, brought more awareness raising initiatives to the world lottery community, in an effort to help its members around the globe protect their interests and better serve their respective communities.

As work continued within the confines of the global pandemic, 2021 saw an increase in WLA virtual events that attracted over 1,500 participants from around the world. Most of the webinars were organized in cooperation with five regional associations.
