As an international trade organization, the WLA speaks with a voice for the world lottery community. In consultation with experts from both inside and outside the lottery and gaming sector, the WLA publishes timely articles on a variety of topics that affect the lottery industry at a global level. These position papers serve to provide guidance, clarity, and a unified opinion on current matters of importance to the industry.

State-licensed lotteries around the world are continually challenged by the countless for-profit gaming operators that are not authorized by regulators to offer gaming products in their respective jurisdictions. As the territorial integrity of its members is a top priority, the WLA is dedicated to combatting illegal lottery operations around the globe. The WLA advises member lotteries on how they can best fight unauthorized lotteries within the regulatory framework of their respective jurisdictions through the work of its Illegal Lotteries and Betting Committee.

Approximately half of all WLA members offer sports betting services, and grass-roots sports is a leading beneficiary of WLA member lottery funding for good causes. The WLA is dedicated to leading the fight against match-fixing and illegal betting to preserving the integrity of sport through the work of its Sports Betting Integrity Committee and through the work of its sister organization ULIS, United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports.
