Louisiana Lottery informs players that when they play Lottery games, they are not only having fun, they are also benefitting education. The Lottery contributes 35 cents of every dollar in sales to help fund K-12 public education. State Treasurer John Schroder Sr. discusses how important the Lottery’s contributions have been to the infrastructure of public education. Since its inception in 1991, the Lottery has transferred over $3.7 billion to the state treasury to go towards funding K-12 education.
The Louisiana Lottery promotes the responsible enjoyment of its games as a form of entertainment. Lottery President and CEO Rose Hudson shares tips for responsible play, including learning the warning signs of problem gambling and knowing where to get help if needed. Janet Miller, Executive Director of the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling (LACG), delves deeper into problem gambling warning signs and how the partnership with the Lottery has helped drive awareness. Along with contributing $500,000 annually to help fund programs of the LACG, the Lottery also promotes the state’s problem gambling helpline on its tickets, advertisements and sales materials, as well as offering responsible play resources on its website and at retail where tickets are sold.
