The live-online discussion will focus on the role Cloud technologies could play in the modernization of lottery organizations, systems, and services.

Invited speakers from The Technology Services Industry Association, the Boston Consulting Group and others will join IGT executives to discuss how some state agencies are taking advantage of Cloud, share insights on Cloud deployment, and consider the potential for lotteries – from game launches and operations to cybersecurity.

As lotteries that have already migrated to Cloud-based solutions are experiencing, the technology provides for more scalability, security, and agility that can help lottery operators manage their business and meet player demands.

The interactive session on December 7th will be of particular interest to lottery membership who hold positions as CIO or in any IT function, allowing for the exchange of ideas around this critical aspect of lottery modernization.

This event is the second in The Players Project series, inaugurated by IGT in 2021 to initiate conversation on broader business issues as they pertain to the lottery industry.

Phase One: Consumer behavior & decision making

In June, the first phase of The Players Project saw industry expert and moderator Charles Cohen joined by renowned behavioral scientist Owain Service, CEO of the Cognition Company, who has worked with the UK government and businesses of all kinds to help them understand human behavior. Trend-spotting expert Noelle Weaver, Managing Partner, Foresight Factory North America, offered insights into lottery players and shared findings from the firm’s newest global research on lottery play.

In the first phase of The Players Project, a live-online event held in June, IGT invited independent consumer experts to unpack the insights from behavioral and trend research with an audience of global lottery customers.

With polling of participants and “voice of the people” interviews featuring players around the world, the event took a deep dive into the human factors behind lottery players’ decision-making process.

The discussion revolved around three key themes, and the sessions are available to review online: Routines, Making Choices, and a phenomenon known as Mental Accounting.

Among the questions explored in the first live event:

  • Why would a person choose one lottery game over another – or choose lottery at all?
  • Why would someone increase or decrease their play, or change their pattern?
  • Why would or could they return to previous behaviors?
  • How do people perceive prizes and good causes?

By replicating famous behavioral science experiments with the live audience, the session shed light on how consumers think about and make everyday choices, such as purchasing a lottery ticket, and offered a fresh lens through which to view and understand players as people.
