ImageAt the World Lottery Association’s conference in Rhodes, Svenska Spel was named world’s leading gaming company in the area of responsible gaming. “It is fantastic and a major recognition for the resonsibility work we pursue and invest heavily in its continued development,” says Svenska Spel’s acting CEO Anders Hägg, and Chairwoman Margareta Winberg. Finance Minister, Anders Borg, announced that he was proud of the company and the award.

During the World Lottery Association’s (WLA) previous conference in Singapore in 2006, it was decided to establish a prize to encourange the industry’s work with responsible gaming. The prize – the WLA Award for Responsible Gaming Excellence – will be awarded to the company among the organisation’s members that represents ‘best practice’ within the area of responsible gaming.

In connection with the conclusion of this year’s WLA conference in Rhodes late last night, president Arch Gleason and the jury’s Chairman, Mike Randall, announced that the prize would go to Svenska Spel, as the company "overall shows first class behaviour in the area of responsible gaming." Svenska Spel also won first prize in the ’best training programme for gaming agent/retailer’ sub-category.

The jury consisted of a group of experts in Corporate Social Responsibility. The members of the jury all came from other industries, e.g. banking and trade and industry. Svenska Spel’s acting MD, Anders Hägg said, ”We are of course incredibly pleased and proud, a lot of gaming companies around the world have, in recent years, invested a lot in developing gaming responsibility programmes, so competition for this prize has been tough.”

Svenska Spel’s Chairwoman, Margareta Winberg, was in contact with Finance Minister, Anders Borg, during the evening who announced that he was proud of the company. ”Our brief from the government clearly points out social responsibility as the main purpose of Svenska Spel’s operation. Which is why it obviously feels great that independent international experts have verified that we are currently leading the development in this important area. It is a major recognition and an incentive for us to become even better,” says Winberg.
